The North Carolina Swimming Hall of Fame was founded in 1985 to recognize outstanding achievements and contributions to the sport of swimming across the state. Between 1985 and 1991, the Hall conducted six induction ceremonies honoring 26 inductees.

In 2015, the North Carolina Swimming Hall of Fame was re-established following the fourth edition of the Masters Swimming National Championships in North Carolina. With support from the Triangle Sports Commission, the Hall was successfully revived. The 2016 Induction Ceremony marked the first celebration in 25 years.
